Africa's Amazons

The AFRICA'S AMAZONS Episode of the EPIC WARRIOR WOMEN 5x52min series on history’s most iconic women fighters is based on historical records.

The drama-led doc recreates the life of a village Chief's daughter Sukeoun. Against her father's wishes she is taken as a tribute to the King of Dahomey. After refusing an arranged marriage, Sukeon and her servant are forced to join the all-female Agooji Palace guards where she rises to commander in the Dahomean Wars of 1892 and 1894 against French colonial forces. The 6,000 strong Agoojis were an all-female elite force feared for their bravery and annual slave raids into their neighbours territories.

Featuring historic re-enactment, battle CGI, UNESCO World Heritage Site in Abomey and leading historians. Filmed in Benin, UK and USA. Delivered in HD and 4K in 2018.
